چکیده

The compress and forward strategy achieves the optimal diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) of a three-node half-duplex relay network in slow fading, under the assumption that the relay has perfect knowledge of all three channel coefficients and that the relay makes use of Wyner-Ziv (WZ) source coding with side information. This paper studies the achievable DMT of the same network when the relay is constrained to make use of standard (non-WZ) source coding. Under a short-term power constraint at the relay, using source coding without side information results in a significant loss in terms of the DMT. For multiplexing gains r ≤ 2 3 , this loss can be fully compensated for by using power control at the relay. On the contrary, for r ∈ ( 2 3 , 1 ) the loss with respect to WZ coding remains significant.

Achievable Secrecy Rate Regions of State Dependent Causal Cognitive Interference Channel

In this paper, the secrecy problem in the state dependent causal cognitive interference channel is studied. The channel state is non-causally known at the cognitive encoder. The message of the cognitive encoder must be kept secret from the primary receiver. We use a coding scheme which is a combination of compress-and-forward strategy with Marton coding, Gel’fand-Pinsker coding and Wyner’s wire...

On Compress-Forward without Wyner-Ziv Binning for Relay Networks

Noisy network coding is recently proposed for the general multi-source network by Lim, Kim, El Gamal and Chung. This scheme builds on compress-forward (CF) relaying but involves three new ideas, namely no Wyner-Ziv binning, relaxed simultaneous decoding and message repetition. In this paper, using the two-way relay channel as the underlining example, we analyze the impact of each of these ideas...

Coding Schemes for the Two-Way Relay Channels

In modern transmission networks, relay plays an important role for cooperative strategies. Several relaying strategies, such as decode-forward, compress-forward and amplify-forward, have been proposed for relay channels and networks. However, the capacity for the general relay channel and network is still unknown. In this thesis, we propose several relay schemes for different relay models. In t...

A Robust Reversed-Complexity Wyner-Ziv Video Codec Introducing Sign-Modulated Codes

Wyner-Ziv coding, distributed coding, Viterbi algorithm, forward-backward algorithm, noisy channel A framework for incorporation of a Wyner-Ziv frame coding mode in existing video codecs is presented, to enable a mode of operation with low encoding complexity. The core Wyner-Ziv frame coder works on the Laplacian residual of a lower-resolution frame encoded by a regular codec at reduced resolut...

Systematic lossy forward error protection for video waveforms

A novel scheme for error-resilient digital video broadcasting, using Wyner-Ziv coding, is presented in this paper. We apply the general framework of systematic lossy source-channel coding to generate a supplementary bitstream that can correct transmission errors in the decoded video waveform up to a certain residual distortion. The systematic portion consists of a conventional MPEG-coded bitstr...
